We’ve updated both the CourseMedia™ MediaViewer and VPS Projection System to take advantage of Google’s new YouTube API for ActionScript 3. All external YouTube videos are now treated just as native ALORA videos using the same display mechanisms and controls in both applications. Previously, YouTube videos required a user to native out of the current environment and into a separate web browser window to access the video.
Here is a short video demonstrating the new functionality:
Get the Flash Player to see this content.
To take advantage of the changes in the VPS Projection System, users must upgrade to version 1.3.2
Version 1.2.6 of the MediaViewer should load up automatically the next time you access CourseMedia™ but you may need to either refresh your browser viewport or clear the cache depending upon your configuration.

Version 1.2.5 of the Media Viewer addresses the following issues:
- #127 Images not smoothed when scaled in Media Viewer (see image above)
- #134 LoaderContext.checkPolicyFile issue with MediaViewer
- #140 Load Indicator not going away if skipping ahead quickly
Version 1.2.2 of the Media Viewer addresses the following issues:
- #86 Close Button on Work Panels in Media Viewer interferes with Panel Closure
- #83 More Robust Discussion Tools Needed
- #98 Media Viewer Audio Waveform Sometimes Not Displayed
There are also some issues with the playback of certain audio files that we are aware of and are working with content providers to remedy.
The ALORA Embed Generator now supports event tracking via Google Analytics!

Just plug in your Web Property ID when you generate the embed code and you are good to go. This is completely optional- you can still use the tool without Google Analytics integration.
Right now, we support the following events:
- “Auto-Play” only in the case of the video playing automatically
- “Play” in the case of a play button being clicked
- “Pause” in the case of the pause button being clicked
- “Scrub” when the scrub-thumb is released
- “End” when the video stream completes its duration
The full RTMP address of the video and event stream time are both recorded for each event as well.
To view your recorded events in Google Analytics, you must go to “Content” then “Event Tracking” as shown below.

Please let us know if you would find additional events useful for your needs!
We made some updates to both the ALORA Video Player and ALORA Embed Generator this afternoon. Older embed codes will still function correctly and do not need to be updated unless you’d like to take advantage of the new features.

The most prominent feature is the inclusion of a full screen option as seen above. This will allow the user to go full screen if he so wishes. Also, internal elements of the player have been simplified and the rounded corners have been removed, allowing for fewer options during the embed generation procedure.
This tool will only work with RTMP streams through the university Flash Media Server instances. The tool can be accessed from the CTL website.
