During the opening day of Adobe MAX 2009 in Los Angeles, two separate sessions featured DU video systems.

Firstly, Joseph Labrecque, Senior Multimedia Application Developer for the University of Denver and Adobe Higher Education Leader included mention of the ALORA Embed Generator video player and its ability to tap into Google Analytics during his session for the FITC Unconference:

Custom Event Reporting from Flash to Google Analytics
With the ability to define and report custom events from within your Flash application, you retain control over how specific events are reported and the information contained in these reports. This presentation will cover the implementation of the Google Analytics Tracking For Adobe Flash ActionScript 3 API for generating custom events and the generation of unorthodox event logging from within Flash.

This presentation was streamed live by FITC and Influxis.

Another strong mention was made by John Schuman, Education Solutions Architect for Adobe Systems during his session on video delivery systems in education during which he focused on the CourseMedia™ application:

Customizing the University Experience with a Rich Media Delivery System
Explore the potential of developing a customized, security-focused, RSS-driven delivery solution. This session shows how you can use Adobe Flash Media Rights Management Server, Flash Media Server 3, and Adobe Media Player

While there were some inaccuracies presented during the session, the spirit of our system was well-represented and we thank John for his coverage of CourseMedia™ and other DU video delivery mechanisms.

Announcing: Adobe Education Seminar Series

August 29th, 2009 Joseph Labrecque No comments

At the Adobe Education Leader Summer Institute this past July, I gave a presentation entitled Leveraging the Flash Platform to Deliver Dynamic Media Across Campus which dealt with what the University of Denver is working on in regard to the Flash Platform, focusing upon our work with CourseMedia™. I received a good deal of positive feedback from both Adobe employees and fellow AELs (Adobe Education Leaders) in attendance.

Adobe Education Leader Summer Institute 2009

A few weeks after the event, I was contacted by the Adobe Education team to gauge my interest in being part of a seminar series they were putting together around how universities are implementing video solutions across campus. DU CourseMedia™ will be one of the points of focus in the upcoming seminar series.

Please learn more and register for the event to join us through Adobe Connect for the following sessions:

  1. SESSION 1 – Video Use Cases in Higher Education: Expand your audience through video (September 9)
  2. SESSION 2 – From Concept to Distribution: Products that will help you capture, edit, and distribute your video online (September 16)
  3. SESSION 3 – Making it all happen: A discussion of how to implement a video solution at your institution (September 23)

I’ll be presenting on both the 1st and 3rd sessions along with Sandy Balzer, John Schuman, and Nick Hippe from Adobe. DU’s Leslie Trumble will also be joining us in presenting Session 1 to contribute her unique perspective on faculty usage through her work at the Visual Media Center.

Tools for Educators at Acrobat.com

June 10th, 2009 Joseph Labrecque No comments

Acrobat.com hosts many free, collaborative tools and services- the bulk of which can be very useful for educators.  Some of the more prominent tools include:

Buzzword – A collaborative online word processor that creates print-perfect documents that can easily be co-authored and shared for comment and review.

ConnectNow – A personal web conferencing service designed with small group collaboration in mind that includes desktop sharing, annotation, file sharing, and integrated chat.

Presentations – Create stunning presentations right from your browser. Work with others online on the same presentation at the same time. No more emailing attachments back and forth, combining comments or wondering who has the latest version.

Tables - Similar to a spreadsheet; your data tables are online so everyone has access to the latest information — no need for multiple versions or e-mail attachments. And with simultaneous editing, no one is locked out while others make changes.

Share – Document and file sharing, including access control and unique document URLs, plus a document previewer that can be embedded directly in web pages.

All of these online tools are build upon the Flash Platform and will function the same over Windows, Mac, or Linux, regardless of web browser brand or version.

You will need to sign in with an Adobe ID to access any of these tools.

Learn more at http://www.adobe.com/acom/ or go directly to http://acrobat.com/ to begin using these services.
