Update: Tracking for Embedded Videos

August 26th, 2009 Joseph Labrecque No comments

The ALORA Embed Generator now supports event tracking via Google Analytics!

Analytics

Just plug in your Web Property ID when you generate the embed code and you are good to go. This is completely optional- you can still use the tool without Google Analytics integration.

Right now, we support the following events:

  • “Auto-Play” only in the case of the video playing automatically
  • “Play” in the case of a play button being clicked
  • “Pause” in the case of the pause button being clicked
  • “Scrub” when the scrub-thumb is released
  • “End” when the video stream completes its duration

The full RTMP address of the video and event stream time are both recorded for each event as well.

To view your recorded events in Google Analytics, you must go to “Content” then “Event Tracking” as shown below.

Please let us know if you would find additional events useful for your needs!

Update to ALORA Video Player and Embed Generator

August 24th, 2009 Joseph Labrecque No comments

We made some updates to both the ALORA Video Player and ALORA Embed Generator this afternoon. Older embed codes will still function correctly and do not need to be updated unless you’d like to take advantage of the new features.

The most prominent feature is the inclusion of a full screen option as seen above. This will allow the user to go full screen if he so wishes. Also, internal elements of the player have been simplified and the rounded corners have been removed, allowing for fewer options during the embed generation procedure.

This tool will only work with RTMP streams through the university Flash Media Server instances. The tool can be accessed from the CTL website.

ALORA Embed Generator

June 16th, 2009 Joseph Labrecque 3 comments

In order to simplify the process of embedding ALORA/ CourseMedia™ video into websites, the CTL has created the ALORA Embed Generator

AEG

This interface will allow a user to generate simple embed code specific to the video he/she wishes to embed.

There are two things to keep in mind when using this tool:

  1. Many videos within ALORA are copyright materials and the Flash Media Server will refuse to stream such materials to un-authenticated web domains.
  2. In order to properly use this tool, you must know a certain amount of information regarding the video in terms of resolution, name of the file, and exactly where the object is being stored.

After generating the embed code, you can paste it into any website you like as seen below:
