November 3rd, 2009 Joseph Labrecque No comments

I’d encourage anyone going to Educause in Denver to stop by the Adobe Booth (#909) for a theater presentation by myself and John Schuman.

Streaming Video for Education
Wednesday, November 4
12:45pm–1:15pm

In this session, you will learn the inner workings of a real-world video solution for higher education based on Adobe Flash technology. Join John Schuman, Adobe education solutions architect, and Joseph Labrecque, senior multimedia application developer at the University of Denver and an Adobe Education Leader, as they take you through the underlying technologies that went into the creation of the amazing video applications of the University of Denver.

Announcing: Adobe Education Seminar Series

At the Adobe Education Leader Summer Institute this past July, I gave a presentation entitled Leveraging the Flash Platform to Deliver Dynamic Media Across Campus which dealt with what the University of Denver is working on in regard to the Flash Platform, focusing upon our work with CourseMedia™. I received a good deal of positive feedback from both Adobe employees and fellow AELs (Adobe Education Leaders) in attendance.

Adobe Education Leader Summer Institute 2009

A few weeks after the event, I was contacted by the Adobe Education team to gauge my interest in being part of a seminar series they were putting together around how universities are implementing video solutions across campus. DU CourseMedia™ will be one of the points of focus in the upcoming seminar series.

Please learn more and register for the event to join us through Adobe Connect for the following sessions:

  1. SESSION 1 – Video Use Cases in Higher Education: Expand your audience through video (September 9)
  2. SESSION 2 – From Concept to Distribution: Products that will help you capture, edit, and distribute your video online (September 16)
  3. SESSION 3 – Making it all happen: A discussion of how to implement a video solution at your institution (September 23)

I’ll be presenting on both the 1st and 3rd sessions along with Sandy Balzer, John Schuman, and Nick Hippe from Adobe. DU’s Leslie Trumble will also be joining us in presenting Session 1 to contribute her unique perspective on faculty usage through her work at the Visual Media Center.

August 12th, 2009 kathy.keairns No comments

In response to the H1N1 virus, the CTL is offering expanded training opportunities for DU faculty members to create course websites for their students.     All DU workshops are open to faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants.  Please share this information with staff members in your unit.  The provost has sent information to the deans who are passing information about the workshops and other training options to all DU faculty members.

COLTT conference in August 12 and 13

July 31st, 2009 kathy.keairns No comments

Several DU faculty and staff have attended or presented at this conference in the past.  More information from Kae Novak is copied below.  This is definitely affordable – only $80.

——————————————-

The Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology (COLTT) conference will be held August 12th and 13th on the CU-Boulder campus. COLTT gives postsecondary faculty, instructors, and staff the opportunity to explore the uses of current and emerging technologies in teaching and research, and to network with colleagues from the entire Rocky Mountain region.

COLTT 2009’s registration is now open, and I encourage you both to register and to invite a new colleague to attend the conference with you. This year’s event includes:

* over 50 research presentations and hands-on workshops;

* a keynote by Richard Katz, vice president of EDUCAUSE and founding director of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR), on cloud computing in academe;

* an interactive theater presentation;

* and a “Cafe Pedagogique” event off-site Tuesday evening.

You can access more information about COLTT 2009 online at:

https://www.cusys.edu/coltt/

This 12th Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology Conference is sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Chief Technology Officer, the ATLAS Institute, and ASSETT Program (Arts and Sciences Support of Education Through Technology).

I encourage you to take advantage of this exciting local opportunity to learn about effective uses of educational technology and to network with campus and regional colleagues.

Questions about COLTT 2009 can be directed to Deborah Keyek-Franssen (deblkf@colorado.edu), Conference Director, or Jill Lester (jill.lester@colorado.edu), Conference Coordinator.

Second Life “Unconference”

July 29th, 2009 kathy.keairns No comments

Second Life and Other Virtual Worlds Unconference

Several of us have been experimenting with Virtual Worlds — to teach, to learn, and even to hold student life and co-curricular events.  We’ve given and seen presentations on Second Life and other virtual worlds at conferences, but with formal conference presentations it never seems there is enough time during the Question and Answer sessions.

Would you be interested in participating in an “unconference” where we would have more time to share our experiences and brainstorm new ideas?

“Unconferences” have been around for at least 4 years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference). It’s where people in the audience  have insight, knowledge and ideas to share, and then decide as a group what needs to be discussed, shown and presented. We have the people. It’s time to collaborate and harness our collective intelligence about Second Life, virtual worlds, education and student engagement.  We could also bring in some keynote speakers via  Second Life.

We can hold the F2F portion on Front Range Community College – Westminster campus on August 6th starting at 10 am MT and the virtual portion in Second Life. Please RSVP to kae.novak@frontrange.edu
