August 12th, 2009 kathy.keairns No comments

In response to the H1N1 virus, the CTL is offering expanded training opportunities for DU faculty members to create course websites for their students.     All DU workshops are open to faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants.  Please share this information with staff members in your unit.  The provost has sent information to the deans who are passing information about the workshops and other training options to all DU faculty members.

July 31st, 2009 kathy.keairns No comments

Several DU faculty and staff have attended or presented at this conference in the past.  More information from Kae Novak is copied below.  This is definitely affordable – only $80.

——————————————-

The Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology (COLTT) conference will be held August 12th and 13th on the CU-Boulder campus. COLTT gives postsecondary faculty, instructors, and staff the opportunity to explore the uses of current and emerging technologies in teaching and research, and to network with colleagues from the entire Rocky Mountain region.

COLTT 2009’s registration is now open, and I encourage you both to register and to invite a new colleague to attend the conference with you. This year’s event includes:

* over 50 research presentations and hands-on workshops;

* a keynote by Richard Katz, vice president of EDUCAUSE and founding director of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR), on cloud computing in academe;

* an interactive theater presentation;

* and a “Cafe Pedagogique” event off-site Tuesday evening.

You can access more information about COLTT 2009 online at:

https://www.cusys.edu/coltt/

This 12th Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology Conference is sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Chief Technology Officer, the ATLAS Institute, and ASSETT Program (Arts and Sciences Support of Education Through Technology).

I encourage you to take advantage of this exciting local opportunity to learn about effective uses of educational technology and to network with campus and regional colleagues.

Questions about COLTT 2009 can be directed to Deborah Keyek-Franssen (deblkf@colorado.edu), Conference Director, or Jill Lester (jill.lester@colorado.edu), Conference Coordinator.

Summer Distance Learning Workshop

June 9th, 2009 bridget.arend No comments

Please pass along this information to anyone who may be interested…

Announcing the summer online Distance Learning Workshop facilitated by the Center for Teaching & Learning at the University of Denver. Our workshop begins on Monday, July 6, 2009 and will be delivered entirely online using Blackboard, the university’s online learning management software.  Participants should plan to spend approximately 3-5 hours each week participating in the online discussions and completing the weekly readings and activities.  Note that this estimate will vary based on your level of experience with Blackboard and your comfort level with online technologies.  Below is the schedule:

Week 1 – July 6 – July 12

Week 2 -  July 13 – July 19

Week 3 – July 20 – July 26

If you plan to take this workshop, please complete the online registration form/pre-workshop survey by clicking on the link below:

http://surveys.du.edu/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=8211652

You will receive an email the week of June 29th with details about how to access Blackboard.  If you do not have experience with Blackboard, we strongly recommend that you review the Blackboard orientation prior to Week 1. All participants who successfully complete this workshop will receive a certificate of completion from the DU Center for Teaching & Learning.

Workshop Description:

To effectively deliver a distance course requires more than simply posting a syllabus, reading assignments, videos of faculty lectures, and/or exams on a web site. Careful attention to course design is required to improve student engagement, learning, and retention in online courses.  This workshop is intended for University of Denver instructors and staff who are new to distance learning.  Participants will experience distance education delivery first-hand as students.

Please let us know if you have any questions.  Don’t forget to complete the registration form soon because space is limited.

Thank you,

Kathy Keairns and Bridget Arend
