Discussion Boards
If you would like to add a hot link (a hyperlink to a web site you can click on from the Discussion Board), you have only to type the link as it appears in the address window of your web browser. The important thing to remember is you must include the "http://"
Examples: This will work: "http://www.du.edu" This will not: "www.du.edu"

The Discussion Board is a communication tool that allows course participants to post a series of comments about any particular subject the instructor has chosen to discuss in Blackboard. When students and instructors participate in a discussion board subject called a "Forum" many comments will appear which are called "Threads". A thread is a series of posted comments by different users.
To add a Discussion Board Forum, navigate to the Discussion Board and click the Add Forum button.

This is a common problem as saved threads are not automatically displayed in the forum they are saved in. It is, however, possible to find them. The easiest way to do so is to go the forum in which you saved your thread, then click "Show All" in the Display drop down box and click "Go". Blackboard will then display all threads, submitted threads and drafts.
Another way to find your thread, although not as quickly, is to open a thread (you can open any thread) and click "Next Thread" until you are directed to the thread you saved.

Yes, instructors may choose to grade a forum or to enable thread grading within the forum. You may do this when you create a forum or after one has been created. Steps for both methods are provided below.
To Add the Grading Option in the Discussion Board
1. Click Discussion Board link in the main course menu.
2. Click the Forum Icon, located on the left side of the upper tool bar.
3. For a new Forum Under Forum Settings (2) select Grade Forum and assign the maximum number of points OR select Grade Threads. (If you select Grade Threads, you will not be prompted to assign a maximum point value in this screen. You will do so when adding a Thread to the Discussion Board.)
For an Existing Forum Click the Modify button that corresponds with the forum you would like to grade. Under Forum Settings (2) select Grade Forum and assign the maximum number of points OR select Grade Threads. (If you select Grade Threads, you will not be prompted to assign a maximum point value in this screen. You will need to do so later.)
4. After you make your selection, you will see a gradebook icon next to the forum or thread that you plan to grade. A gradebook item is automatically created in your Blackboard gradebook. To Grade Threads 1. Click on the link for the thread you would like to grade. Here you will assign the total number of points for an item.
2. To do so, click the Modify button on the tool bar for that thread. Under Grading (3) check the box that says Grade Thread and assign a Point Value. Click Submit.
3. To manually grade the individual threads, navigate to the Gradebook and click the link for the thread you will be grading. Click the link for Item Grade list. After you have entered grades for the threads, click Submit.
To Grade Forums 1. If you have chosen to grad a forum, you will notice that an icon (Notebook) appears under the Grade Heading. Click on this icon. 2. Click the Grade Button (located to the far right of the screen) for the individual you are grading. 3. In the next screen, enter a Grad in the space provided and click the Submit button. Then click Ok.
4. When you have finished entering students grades, click the Ok button.
5. You may adjust these point values in the Gradebook, as well.

2. Click the Add New Thread button (located on the left hand side of the toolbar).
3. You will be directed to a new screen where you will need to enter a Subject and Message for the new thread. Students can then post a reply to the thread.

This happens when you click Save instead of Submit when adding a thread so it saved it as a draft that only you can view. To correct, go back into the thread and click on the thread link so you can read your post and then click the Modify button. From there you will be able to click the Submit button at the bottom right of the page. Make sure you are in the "Tree View."

There are a couple of reasons for why this error may occur.
1) Make sure that your professor allows student authors to delete their own posts. If your instructor does not allow posts to be deleted, then there is no way to delete the post without the instructor doing so. Instructors - you can modify this setting using your control panel.
2) Check your browser. Students have reported trouble deleting discussion board posts when using Firefox or Safari. Try using Internet Explorer and the post should be able to be successfully removed.
