Assignment Manager
This problem occurs when the student does not include a message in the comment box when submitting an assignment from the Assignment Manager. The student receives an error message but ignores it. The Error Message says:
“You must provide a value for comments.”
The student ignores the message and clicks Save – because they cannot click submit.
Solution:
Student needs to go back to that Assignment and add a comment and then the student can submit the assignment successfully.
This changes the item in the Gradebook from a padlock to an exclamation point and the instructor can pick it up.
The assignment file also can be picked up by the instructor within the Gradebook without the student going back. The attached file can be retrieved from within the Gradebook by selecting the – “Item File Clean-up” option for that particular assignment.

The assignment manager is an alternative to the traditional digital dropbox method of submitting assignments. Assignments that are added as a content type are managed in the Gradebook and can be created in any content area of a course. All content management operations, including time-release options, are supported.

This happens when the student clicks the Save button instead of the Submit button when submitting their assignment. Tell the student to go back to the assignment link and click on the Submit button. Once she does this, you will be able to download the assignment. Remind your students they need to click Submit button to send you their assignment.

Blackboard has intermittent issues with filenames that include special characters such as #, & or filenames that contain spaces. Tell your student to rename the file and resubmit it. Note: You may need to clear the original attempt first. It is helpful to provide the students with some file name guidelines. Below is an example.
File name guidelines: Please make sure to include your last name in the file name for your paper. Avoid filenames that include special characters such as #, & or filenames that contain spaces. Example: "smith_assignment1" is an acceptable filename, "smith assignment #1" is not.
